Near-Injury at Playground When Mom Finds Razors on Slide

Parents take their children to local parks all the time so their kids can play and burn off excess energy. The assumption is that the play structures at the parks are generally safe as long as they are used correctly and there is no horseplay. Still, child injuries on play structures are common.

However, an Alaska parent got the shock of her life when her 3-year-old daughter was about to go down a slide. The mother noticed razor blades strategically placed on the slide, with someone intending to cut and seriously injure a child.

The incident happened on October 8, 2023. The woman, her husband, and her daughter were at Schroeder Park in the Eagle River area of Anchorage. The 3-year-old daughter was on the playground structure and preparing to go down the slide when her mother noticed razor blades on it. The woman made a mad dash toward her daughter, running as fast as she could to grab her daughter before she went down. Luckily, she was able to get her daughter before she slid into a blade.

Her mother was able to see the razors based on where she was standing in the park. Otherwise, a child would not have been able to see the blades on the spiral-shaped slide. The layout of the razors was designed to catch a kid at maximum force with gravity working against them. Nobody else has been injured by the razor blades.

Anchorage police investigated the park after the incident and found more razor blades on the ground next to the staircase of the playground structure. Officers walked the park regularly to look for dangerous items. No suspects were identified. It is unknown if this was done intentionally or is a teen prank.

While nobody was injured, the incident was still frightening to the family. The family moved to Alaska a year and a half ago after living in the greater Philadelphia area. They were hoping to move to somewhere safer and get back to some old-fashioned ways of living.

Meanwhile, the little girl has been struggling in the days since the incident. She does not want to be near parks and will start yelling and screaming when her parents drive near one.
